Idents

Okay, so it’s a little bit late but i’ve finally gotten round to doing it!

Idents, what are they? Well, they’re kind of like a ‘signature’… whenever it’s shown, it’s the same, they are easy to remember. Not only are they shown on films, they are also shown on things such as television programs and video games. They allow us to see who the program, movie, game etc has been brought by.

Paramount Pictures –

Here, Paramount Pictures have used a relaxing, creative idea for their ident. It is very different to the other sorts of idents that have been used. As you can see, the colours aren’t all that bright however, they still manage to stand out and make the ident noticeable.

Warner Bros –

Here, Warner Bros have an ident that is completely different to that of Paramount Pictures. This ident stands out, it’s in your face… the bold use of gold against a blue background helps to achieve this. The use of two colours that contrast against one another the way they do help for the ident to stick in someones mind. It’s bold, it’s there, it’s easy to understand.

20th Century Fox –

Again, this ident is very different to that of other companies. The use of a bold gold font against a blue background has a similar effect to that with Warner Bros. It stands out, it’s bold and it’s easy to remember. It could be seen as a very dominant ident, its based near the top of the screen making the audience look up to it. However, the use of spot lights  could possibly add for a more ‘hollywood’ kind of feel.

Breaking Reality… Post production…

So, we’ve managed to film our 2 minute opening sequence, the titles and are now starting the editing.

We have done the edits on Livecut and chosen ‘Bank Gothic’ for our font. We’ve done it in white with a black shadowed background.
It is by RKBG pictures present in association with ‘Just don’t run, Productions’. This all happens along with the sound track ‘Whack Attack’ by Daniel. G. King.

Before we did anything, we had to do some storyboards and plan our opening 2 minutes carefully.

We are still editing our film despite having done quite a bit already. There’s a lot of colour correction that is needed as when we were filming, it was near a window creating a dull blue colour that filled the room. We are making the colour more vibrant as we find it looks better and really, no one wants to watch some footage with a dull, boring looking room as it could effect the atmosphere and audience interest but we may have a little not of a problem when doing this as the new effects be made the pictures look really grainy. As pretty much all of our shots are in this cold blue colour we have had to try match each shot up by changing things such are the red, blue and green ratio, because of this, unfortunately we haven’t been able to match them all up completely so that looks like something we’ll be doing once we get back to school.

As our film opening is over the top and part of our main characters daydream, we have decided to add a bit of a cartoony effect to some things, e.g. Richard created a muzzle flash and blood to go with the gun once it had been fired. As for any other effects, we will all decide upon what to do, add etc.

Mass blog on Misfits

So as you know, we’ve been watching and analysing Misfits, series 1.
We’ve had to find the different camera shots, angles, edits, sounds, mise-en-scene etc used within different scenes.

Here, we have an extreme close up  of the lip gloss. This portrays sexuality and shows that’s it’s a female. While this is happening, there are voices in the background that are extremely muffled which could give the impression of character being very self-absorbed.

The image of the lip gloss then cuts to another extreme close up but this time, it’s of the character applying the lip gloss. The movement at this point appears to be slightly slowed down, this could be to add emphasis on movement to portray more of a sexual approach to the situation.

This is the use of yet another extreme close up. It is of the blusher which again could add sexuality to the scene. This shot then cuts to the character applying it to her cheek. –

As this character approaches the end to putting her make up on, the muffled voices in the background become more and more noticeable and easier to understand. Showing that even though she is very self-absorbed, the realization of the surrounding characters comes to the surface.

This shot, like all the others add sexuality. The slightly slowed down motion adds emphasis on movement. It shows that the character is very precise when applying her make up, being careful. These movements may make the audience expect someone beautiful etc as the shots use help to emphasis sexual characteristics: eyes, cheeks and lips, emphasis beauty.

We then get a shot that reveals the ‘finishing product’. We see that it isn’t how it first appears to be… instead of seeing someone beautiful, elegant etc, we see her chewing gum, wearing big hoop earrings, she appears to look what people would stereotypically class as common?

At this point, the camera pans from side to side. The focus shifts from Alisha to Curtis, however keeping Alisha in the shot, the voices in the background are now very clear.  This shot creates some sort of framing, possibly suggesting some kind of relationship between the pair. He’s looking at her, she isn’t looking at him, showing that Curtis is more keen as even when he starts speaking to Simon, his attention is still focused on Alisha, Simon isn’t as important.

This is a master shot, it is a shot that helps to answer questions: who, what, where, when and possibly even why? We can see all the main characters, we can see that they are all in some sort of changing room, we can see that it is day time through the window at the top. The contrast in colours make the characters stand out more as they are in bright orange uniforms, stood against a very bland, grey background. It shows Simon stood in the middle of the frame, he is the center of attention. You can see that the other characters don’t appear to have much respect for him, he looks scared, uncomfortable, like he doesn’t like the attention on him.

Here, we have a close up of Simons face, you can tell by his expression that he doesn’t feel very comfortable or confident. This leads on to a series of action shots of the other characters as Simon couldn’t do as he was asked…

Once all these shots have been shown, the other characters leave the room and non-diegetic music starts playing, to add anticipation?

We’re then left with a medium shot of Simon showing that he is now alone, maybe feeling embarrassed?

Once the medium shot has been shown, we move on to this shot of Simon turning invisible. The camera at first is looking up towards Simon but changes to this, where it is looking down on him from above maybe to signify that something strange is going to happen, we are given a few unusual shots. While this is happening, there is non-diegetic sounds used again, it helps to show the discomfort that Simon is going through.

This medium shot shows everyone leaving through the door. The door then shuts signifying that Simon in now completely alone?

We return to a shot of Simon and the camera moves away from him showing again, that he is alone, in a cold, depressing room.

This master shot shows the other characters, plus a new one, are all in a different room. It shows that the new character isn’t in a uniform, is he more superior? It is a tracking shot making the scene appear more realistic.

We cut to a point of view shot of a mound of clothing on the floor, showing what you would see as if you were in the scene with them.

We have another tracking shot of the new character
